Troubleshooting: Blank Pages

This problem is specific to all-in-one cartridges found in printers such as Dell, Lexmark, HP, Brother, and others.

What causes it? All-in-one cartridges have a special trapdoor which opens to expose a brightly colored drum unit. If this door gets stuck or jammed, the laser can’t write on the drum, which causes blank pages.

Try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Check the trapdoor
    • If it seems tight or hard to move, open & close it a few times to get it moving. It may just have been on the shelf for too long.
    • If this trick doesn’t work, you’ll likely need to replace the cartridge.
  • Check the spring attached to the trapdoor
    • If it’s loose, missing, or unwound, you’ll need to replace the cartridge.
