MICR is an acronym that stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. It is used primarily for printing specialized font at the bottom of checks to be read by high-speed, magnetic sorting machines. The key ingredient that gives MICR toner it’s magnetic charge is iron oxide. The Federal Reserve instituted MICR toner printing to make check-clearing processing more efficient (Source).
By far the most popular MICR printer brand is Source Technologies. In 1996, they formed a partnership with Lexmark to become their exclusive provider of MICR printing supplies. As a result, most Source Technologies printers you see today will look identical to Lexmark machines.
At Print.Save.Repeat., we specialize in manufacturing Lexmark toner cartridges and have expanded our line to include MICR toner. We understand that when dealing with security, there is no margin for error. We’ve spent thousands of hours perfecting our manufacturing process to ensure our products are equal in every way to the Source Technologies brand while also providing the best value.
